I work for Musician's Friend. Those are both great shell packs. It really comes down to preference, as they are going to have very different sound characteristics. The Ludwig kit is made of birch and poplar, which will give it a harder, brighter tone. The Gretsch pack is made of mahogany, which means it will have an enhanced low and mid-range sound, giving it a more vintage sound.
