Percussionists that dont play drumset/play something else w/ drumset!?
I was wondering how many of you guys play percussion besides the drumset. I play alot of jazz on the drumset, but I also play the flute and the djembe. The djembe is a ton of fun and I highly reccomend it!
Are there any other percussionists that play other stuff besides the drum set? (congos, bongos, djembe, anything?)
I guess my name really explains it all. I'm a mallet percussionist. I play the marimba, xylophone, bells, vibraphone, chimes, and pretty much everything in this category.
I've been playing mallets for 6 years and I'm starting to play with a 4-mallet grip. I'm also trying to see if there is a 6-mallet grip.
If you're looking for another instrument to play or just want to fool around on it, I would try mallets. One thing, you already know treble clef and rudiments. You're pretty much set on this prospect.
Hope This Helped.
Have Fun Playing Hand Drums provides historic overview of all three drums followed by details about each drum, the dynamics and various sounds a player can use and ways to obtain each sound. You will find 6 uncomplicated Drum games for groups to appreciate. I particularly enjoyed "Drum Train", an excellent rudiment exercise that even experienced players will benefit from. It improves hand dexterity and use of dynamics. Techniques to evolve a uncomplicated rhythm into something far more complicated and busy is discussed. There are actually also 6 samples of layering 2-part rhythms, with players assigned basic songs. Followed by 3-part rhythms and standard rhythms for some of the far more common hand drums. Kakilambe (Nigerian) for Djembe and Djun Djun drums; Tumbao (Cuban), among the most universally known rhythms for Congas; Clave, a time keeping rhythm that is generally utilized to aide the members of a band; and lastly, Martillo - a standard rhythm for bongos. The drum is among the most used musical instrument to date and haveing the correct equipment like the Drum Percussion Djembe on this page will surely support inside the performance.
Coming out of a musical back round is always a huge assist. I was really born into a family where my father plays guitar (which we're really in a gigging band together at present), and out of his 4 brothers, 3 of them played instruments, and also my grandfather played bass, and my grandmother sang (that is how they met!) So interestingly enough, I believe that music runs within the family, because my parents never pushed the drums on me, and I ultimately just wanted to play drums on my own. Just in the nearby region I live in alone, I know 2 other fairly significant families that have really young talent, and also the parents and grandparents playing instruments at some point(or still these days). So for those who have music inside your blood, for gods sake, pick up a set of stick or a guitar (just not a bass), and get to practicing!
